Marine Electronics & On-Board Technology

As an avid boater rooted in Humboldt County, I saw how small commercial fleets and charter captains on the Northern California coast lacked reliable, integrated marine technology. Through Honest Tech Services I built bespoke onboard systems—radar, GPS, sonar, navigation displays, Starlink connectivity, and hardened computers—to keep local crews safe and connected at sea.

Approach and execution

What I did

Role

Owner & lead marine systems integrator designing and installing complete electronics packages for commercial and recreational vessels along the Humboldt coast.

Key Actions

Specified, installed, and configured marine radar, GPS, sonar, AIS, autopilot integrations, and multi-display navigation suites tailored to fishing vessels and charter boats.

Delivered high-speed connectivity by deploying Starlink terminals and building fanless, salt-fog-resistant onboard computers for charting, data logging, and crew operations.

Partnered with manufacturers such as Furuno to integrate fish finders, helm controls, and monitoring tools into cohesive, serviceable systems supported by local documentation.

Impact & Outcomes

Closed a long-standing service gap for Humboldt Bay mariners by providing trusted local support and technology tuned to the demanding Pacific conditions.

Focused the practice on sustainability and resilience, using each install to advance my long-term vision of user-repairable, U.S.-made marine electronics that empower working waterfront communities.
